LEARNING ENVIRONMENT//CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Classroom management consists of the organizational practices and procedures that a teacher uses to maintain an environment in which instruction and learning can occur. Classroom management is the foundation of an effective and successful classroom.

In essence, the purpose of classroom management is to achieve the following:

Well managed classroom → student engagement → productive learning environment

Thus, classroom management is crucial as it leads to positive student outcomes and teacher thrival.

Fisher et al. (2020) advice that we create a classroom management plan that includes the expectations, procedures, and routines that we will abide by as a class.

Expectations such as norms and agreements should be co-created with our students. Procedures, the tasks students must do to increase their chances of learning and achievement, should be explicitly taught. Routines are procedures that students do consistently without prompting or supervision. It is our job to help students get there.
